Location: The successful candidate may have the opportunity to work anywhere in Ontario, but would be expected to attend the office at least 3 days per week. Location will be based on candidate preference, operational feasibility and office space.

About the job

In this role, you will:

• provide scientific and technical expertise regarding the sedimentary geology of Ontario
• ensure informed implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives related to subsurface resources
• review and evaluate applications for well licenses and permits associated with this regulated activity and tenure for rights to Crown pore space
• verify geological information and interpretations, identify issues, and endorse applications for approval
• initiate, guide or participate in scientific research projects to improve understanding of the sedimentary geology of Ontario, and prepare reports and maps based on research findings

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• You are a registered geoscientist or geoscientist-in-training in good standing with Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) or with another regulated association of geoscientists such as the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Geologic knowledge and experience:

• comprehensive understanding of clastic, carbonate, and evaporite sedimentary environments and petrology
• expertise in the subsurface geology of southern Ontario and stratigraphy of the Michigan and Appalachian basins.
• proficiency in subsurface geological mapping, sampling, and resource evaluation techniques

Analytical and evaluation skills:

• ability to analyze and interpret geoscience data from maps, reports, geophysical logs, drill cuttings, core samples and geochemical analyses

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• capability to prepare scientific and technical reports suitable for publication
• skills to present complex scientific ideas to both professional peers and non-technical audiences
• ability to interact with stakeholders and provide advice to government and industry clients

Leadership and project management skills:

• ability to plan, organize, and conduct geological studies
• skills and experience in directing the work of field and laboratory staff, consultants and assistants

Legislative knowledge:

• familiarity with policy and legislation related to carbon storage
• experience in reviewing, drilling and plugging applications and geotechnical reports

Computer and GIS skills:

• proficiency in software for map construction, gridding, contouring, and 3D mapping
• knowledge of GIS principles and visualization techniques
